Frequently Asked Questions

No. The Oxbow is open to the public, dawn to dusk, at no charge. Oxbow, Inc. is a nonprofit funded by members, donors and grants.

No. There are no restrooms or other facilities on the property, and no camping, fires or overnight parking. Plan accordingly.

Bank fishing is permitted with an appropriate license and is monitored by conservation officers. Hunting and trapping are prohibited except in designated areas with written permission: you must be a member, permits are limited, and the annual application window is announced in the newsletter.

No. Removing, destroying or disturbing wildlife, plants, fields or farm crops without written consent is prohibited, and violators are subject to prosecution for criminal trespass.

The Oxbow is a floodplain. Water can come in at two feet an hour or faster, and Oxbow Road may close in bad weather, though you can still walk it. Check current conditions on the Visit page before you come.

Motorized vehicles must stay on established roads, and ATVs are not allowed. No swimming in the streams, lakes and other watercourses, and no motorized watercraft.

Work days and outings run year-round: River Sweeps, native plantings, nest-box builds and bird counts. No experience needed. See Get Involved for the next date.

Yes. Oxbow, Inc. awards education grants of up to $1,000, twice a year, to local K-12 and college educators, and runs free Tuesday Night Talks and guided field trips. Details are under Get Involved.

Oxbow Road: possible closure

Oxbow Road may be closed completely or partially depending on weather and road conditions. You can still hike or walk the road, but please park in the parking lot and do not block the gates.

Bird migration in progress

Oxbow is home to hundreds of migrating birds. Please help us keep it this way by not disturbing active nesting and migration activities.

South entrance muddy

Due to recent rains the southern entrance is extremely muddy and could prove difficult for vehicle and foot traffic.
